Experiencing Writerz Block

Spoiler Alert: It's not what you think

You don't have to call yourself a writer to have experienced those times when, try as you might, no words come to mind. No idea sparks are flying, and you're staring at a blank screen for what feels like an eternity.

But that's not what I'm talking about here.

This is not about any psychological inhibitions or "blockages" that prohibit you from expressing yourself on paper or any other medium.

I'm not talking about Writer's Block. I'm talking about "Writerz Block."

And no, I didn't just change the spelling so that it would be some cooler, more urban version with the exact same meaning. The meaning behind the name is quite different.

Where I'm from

There are numerous definitions for "block". I won't bore you with listing them out, but feel free to Google them for yourself if you like.

The meaning that I would like to focus on here does not necessary reside on the virtual pages of dictionary.com. It's more of an understood meaning. And it's a place that many call home.

During a recent business trip, I found myself sitting on the aisle seat next to a lovely couple on an extended flight. I went from watching movies, to checking my email, to writing in my journal. When I began to write the older woman near the window reached over.

"How long have you been writing?" she asked politely.

"Ever since I was a little girl and we called them "diaries" instead of journals." I replied

Her facial expression was a slight indication that my answer took her by surprise. A lot of people are encouraging others to incorporate journaling into their morning routines. And it's definitely a great practice. It's just that, for me, it's something that I've done all of my life.

It just comes naturally.

"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have." ~ Maya Angelou

Maya's right. I don't think that you can ever use up your creativity. I think what usually happens is we just don't tap into that creative spring inside of us nearly as often as we should.

This is the entire reason that I created Writerz Block.

I needed a safe place to set my words free. I needed a place to call home. A place that I could always come back to, no matter what other projects I work on. No matter how life calls me in a million other directions.

This place will always be my home.

So I invite you to experience Writerz Block.

After all, if you're here, we probably share the same passion. We want to show up in the world as our whole unique selves and make an impact that will bring about lasting change.

So let's do it.
